In my first post, I mentioned that effective communication is an important tool for survival in our society today. After going through this module, I'm truly convinced that effective communication is a lifelong process and needs to be honed. It has also further emphasized on the importance of effective communication and highlighted the intricacies of it. For example, not only do verbal or non-verbal cues influence the communication pipeline, discerning intercultural behaviour is just as important for effective communication.
In retrospect, this module has offered me numerous ways to progress towards effective communication. Learning about effective communication and practicing it has been such a dynamic and enriching process. Blogging, blog responses, classroom interactions and written assignments encouraged me to move beyond my comfort zone and adopt new approaches towards effective communication. What is so fascinating about this module is that I have learnt quite a bit from my peers through their blog entries and how communication plays a part in our everyday life. However, I have to admit that responding to blogs wasn't the most exciting thing to do throughout this course. Yet, this seemingly cumbersome task compelled me to read critically and respond coherently to the blog posts using the 7Cs for effective communication.
As the module draws to a close, I would like to thank Ms Goh and all my classmates for a fruitful three-and-half months. The word 'professional' has a sense of serious decorum and blandness. However, this module is anything but. It has been an enjoyable experience - making new friends and taking home the many valuable skills of effective communication. Cheers!

Hi Mario,
ReplyDeleteIt tickles me when you describe blogging as not the most exciting thing to do throughout the course. ;) I agree as it certainly doesn’t trigger an adrenaline rush like that of oral presentation. Even so, sharing of interesting encounters and views on issues through blogging is a refreshing way of learning and it aids to brush up our evaluation skills.
Having known the importance of starting off with positive comments now, I would not dive in straight to main points like I usually do and being tactful with words is a useful skill which would benefit us in everyday life.
Bearing in mind what we have learnt, let’s work hard to become better communicators. All the best!
Cheers,
Jie Li
Hi Mario,
ReplyDeleteWell written post. As usual. With your fantastic English. Haha.
Yup I do agree that commenting on the blogs might be a bit tedious. But I really enjoyed reading the posts. If only we do not have other workload on hand, I would definitely read every single blog post that everyone in my class posted. =) And I have learnt so much through this blogging experience.
Now that we know communication plays such a huge role in our lives, let's continue to improve on our communication skills as learning has no ending path to it!
Cheers,
Huiwen
Hi Mario,
ReplyDeleteI strongly agree that effective communication is a lifelong process. In the past three and half months, the module has covered many aspects of effective communication. Some of the skills, like appearing professional in business correspondence by adopting a right format and making the right addressing and tone etc, can be easily picked up in class through Ms Goh’s guidance and our practices; some of the skills like building healthy relationships, however, can only be accumulated through rich life experience. Although the course is drawing to an end, our pursuit of effective communication should remain.
I would also like to express my appreciation for the great effort you made to our project. Thanks for the good job and thanks for all the valuable ideas to our project! Besides, As Huiwen said, your English proficiency is far beyond us and thanks for the time spent helping refine the phrasing in report and the presentation scripts . I will Jiayou building up my vocabulary and wow you guys someday …hahahh
Cheers,
June
